Penelope came into the shelter as a stray. A Mickaboo volunteer went right down to the shelter and picked her up. The volunteer knew that something just wasn't right with Penelope. Upon closer examination, the volunteer found an open wound on the top of her head underneath her feathers. Penelope was taken directly to an avian vet where it was determined that her head wound was so deep that Penelope's skull was exposed! Poor little girl. Who knows what attacked her and how long she had been suffering. She spent weeks at the vet where her head wound was cleaned and stitched up. Penelope was on meds to prevent infection and finally released. She is now in a wonderful foster home where she is getting back to being a healthy cockatiel.

I didn't realize there were stray cockatiels. She might have gotten whacked by a ceiling fan or something like that by accident. If you lived closer, we'd have a wonderful "husband" for her (K.C.)who is quite the charmer. Glad she's all better!
