Madhav Kumar Nepal takes oath - ( HQ ) Full uncut - Part 2 of 2

KATHMANDU, May 25 - प्रधानमन्त्री माधवकुमार नेपाल द्बारा शपथ ग्रहन ।

Newly elected Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal took oath of office and secrecy on Monday.

President Dr Ram Baran Yadav administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly elected prime minister amidst a ceremony at the Presidential residence in Shital Niwas this morning.

Vice-President Paramananda Jha, Constituent Assembly (CA) Chairman Subash Chandra Namwang, Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Rookmangud Katawal, senior political party leaders, chiefs of security bodies, heads of the government, international diplomatic representatives, among other high level personnel were present at the ceremony.

However, outgoing Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal did not show up at the event.

Nepal broke the tradition of taking oath in the name of God and wore a 'Daura Suruwal' while taking oath unlike the outgoing Prime Minister

Meanwhile, President Yadav, Indian Ambassador to Nepal Rakesh Sood, among others congratulated Prime Minister Nepal after swearing in the newly elected prime minister.

Nepal, 56, was elected unopposed, CA Chairman Nemwang told the 601-member House on Saturday evening.

He enjoyed the backing of 358 members from 22 of the 25 political parties represented in the CA.

The Unified CPN (Maoist) and Nepali Janata Dal had boycotted the election while CPN (Unified) walked out the parliamentary proceedings protesting the President's move asking the CoAS to continue in office over-ruling the government decision to sack him on May 3.

MK Nepal is the second Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal.

Likewise, UML vice-chairperson Bidya Bhandari and party politburo member Surendra Pandey also took the oath of office and secrecy at the same event.

Pandey has been appointed for the Ministry of Finance and Bhandari for Ministry of Defence.

They were administered by Prime Minister Nepal in the presence of President Yadav.
