---Update: LADDERS DO NOT WORK AS OF 1.1. But they can be replaced with Iron Bars or Glass Panes with slightly reduced range. I have also tested with Doors (placement is more trickier, but they have the same results as Ladders). If you do use Doors, be sure that they are opened before firing!!! Closed doors will not support falling TNT.

Check out my improved "Guillotine" mortar, 100 block range http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vO5UpRpSJpk---

Uses a "Ladder" as a shot mounting block. A raised "Trapdoor" can also be used.

From my first mortar, I culminated all I learned into this smaller, and much more accurate, TNT mortar. Instead of using two blast elements, one forward and one upward, I use a ladder to hold the shot at a diagonal angle to the blast from a single charge. The result, much more compact build, easier loading, and a smoother lobe trajectory.

By adjusting the amount of TNT I put in the boast stack, I get a pretty good control over the range. Using a ladder instead of a solid block for the shot to mount on is a must, because unlike a solid block, it doesn't obstruct the blast force, hence more power directed.

  • Did you know your on the Minecraft Wiki?

  • @soulnomod Yea, I added the section on shot mounting blocks.

  • @kovona god damnit, its hard to understand your wiki on the waterless block! what is the "trough" you talk about on the wiki?

  • @12togo34 Its the place where you pour the bucket of water to prevent the cannon from blowing itself up...I thought that was common terminology :P.

  • Could you please make a tutorial?

I have some.....problems in a valley that need to be taken care of.

  • @pinhedi lol sure, but I got midterms coming so it might have to wait. But the build is pretty much like any TNT cannon, except you place a ladder above the shot, and set off the shot with 6-8 repeaters on full delay. How far do you need to shoot?
