Sometimes you just need a break from everyday life, for some people camping is the perfect remedy. In this video Martin gets away from it all by wild camping on an island in a rather famous Scottish loch. As he paddles through the placid autumnal waters Martin takes some time to appreciate the quiet serenity of the season. Besides canoeing he discusses wild camping, fire starting & fire management in his usual lighthearted manner. Enjoy.

  • Love the video. Where did you get your canoe because i am thinking of getting one. You guys should write a book because you are so knowlegable, any tips you can give me and my mate for when we next go out camping?

  • @TheBushcraftBoys - Wow are you our doppelgängers? Ha ha, bought the canoe off a bloke on song of the paddle forum - lots of good people on there ready to help you out. Tips? Respect nature & it will pay dividends, get as involved as possible & enjoy yourself. Bushcraft is the best way - less is more as they say & it's true!

  • Nice video!

just wondered though, did you take any water you used for cooking/drinking etc. with you, or collect it and treat it on site?

    all the best, Dan.

  • @flyingleafman We usually take drinking water on short trips & use stream water for cooking, washing etc. But for longer trips we boil & sometimes filter water from streams & lochs - some streams are so clean in the highlands that we don't hesitate to drink straight from them!

  • great vid , how did you learn all these skills are you ex military ?

  • @idgewe Cheers, does dad's army count? Seriously though we're not ex-military we just have a keen interest in the outdoors & we love to get close to nature - bushcraft's the perfect way.

  • you are not on lochness, i think you got you lock's mixed up , i would say your on the big loch, you said it had more water per volume then all the lakes in englandshire, not true. you would need to be on lochness, a mistake anybody could make, no trying to be funny or smartarse, but i do like your videos.

  • @Minijaff id look on goodle maps mate, best resource for finding lochs, and islands,

lommond, ard, and chon all have islands if i remeber right,

remember take only photographs and leave on footprints!
