What is it about this SIMPLE, Highly Effective Shot?

March 21, 2011

Don Nelson will be on Chronicle LIVE for 60 minutes. I wonder what he thinks of this video, underhand free throws, would he have FORCED Andris Biedrins to shoot free throws this way ... what does he think of Andris progress so far?

NEW COPY January 30, 2011
Happy New Year. Still, nobody that I know of shoots free throws underhand ... high school, college, pros worldwide. You know of anyone ?

SoCooLBob is getting older. I just got over a debilitating bout with bronchitis. I've heard of other people getting it, but this is an unpleasant first for me. I would say I was pretty well knocked out a lot of the time for the last two months. Difficulty breathing. Too much mucas in the system. Lack of energy.

Kind of like getting tired in a basketball game.

I have had the opportunity to practice in a fairly limited way ... 100 shots, in competition with my former college basketball player son ... three times in the last week. I made 28 in a row yesterday. We've got this new backboard and the correct distances, near as possible. I have practiced enough to KNOW that the shot is there. With a little more practice I can probably shoot 20 or more in a row fairly regularly. I will eventually get one of my next goals ... 100 in a row.

I still highly recommend to any basketball player and others ... take six weeks to see if you can practice and perfect A to B. It's so simple if you do it ... and if it isn't ... do it and then tell me about it. I'll bet I'll really be able to help you more then.

SoCooLBob is 65 years now. We recently acquired one of those portable hoops for the backyard. This is a good thing because it has given SoCooLBob the opportunity to practice daily. It's been three weeks. I shot competitively / co-opetively (that's a word) with my former college basketball player Jon, and
I now am frequently shooting 90 plus percent.

Today, despite no "legs" and no "wind" I had 5 rounds of 10 out of 10, including the long runs of 16 and 25, 6 or 7 rounds of 9 out of 10 and 2 or 3 rounds of 8 out of 10. I cannot remember the last time I missed a shot to tie or to win ... and I seldom if ever miss the last shot.

This Shot Is So SIMPLE - Arms A to B
This Shot is AUTOMATIC

A person CAN consider THINKING what they want to THINK ... because their body will follow their thinking and NOT the other way around.

The rule .. it really doesn't matter all the reasons why not. What really matters is what is the better procedure? and how long does it really take to do it once, twice, three times correctly and make a habit out of it?

Update: 1/27 10:40PM
SoCooL Bob is in the middle of Round 3 Of Chemotherapy ... And can still EASILY MAKE 75 to 80 plus percent of his Free Throws, without much practice.

  • I counted 20 but i might be wrong ...

  • @coopaing YOU are absolutely CORRECT.

Think of it ... I'm on enough drugs on chemotherapy that I can't COUNT, but ... I can still MAKE 20 in a row. And Andris Biedrins is still shooting overhand. :)

  • I will NEVER play 21 with this guy :P

  • @sverdet13 Good Call !!!

  • he is just doin the same shots

  • @xxretartedmonkeyxx I'm not sure the purpose and benefit of your comment. Perhaps, you could elaborate. An important fact. You are RIGHT The free throw is ALWAYS THE SAME SHOT THE CONDITIONS are ALWAYS very nearly the same. The basket is at the same height, everywhere in the world. The free throw line is at the same distance, every basketball court in the world. No player is allowed to interfere with the shot. That's one important reason why ANYONE should be successful. And yet some aren't.
