Operation HOME: Latino Home Initiative

Here is the latest video from the Portland Development Commission. Its about the Latino Home Initiative (LHI). LHIs mission is to close the home ownership gap for Latinos and other low-income individuals and families through education and down payment assistance grants.

The Latino population in the Portland metro area is flourishing with more families moving into the area to join those already well established here. One key to their success will be buying a home.

Homeownership is the most stable wealth-building tool for a family. Yet, the current homeownership rate for Latinos in Oregon is about 37%, which is significantly less than the national and statewide average.

La misión de la Latino Home Initiative (Iniciativa Latina de Vivienda, con siglas LHI en inglés) es eliminar la disparidad en la propiedad de viviendas de los latinos y otras familias e individuos de bajos ingresos a través de la educación y la ayuda económica para los pagos de enganche.

La población latina en el área metropolitana de Portland está floreciendo con más familias mudándose al área para unirse a las que ya están bien establecidas aquí. Una clave de su éxito será el comprar una casa.

La propiedad de viviendas es una de las herramientas más estables para que una familia acumule riqueza. Sin embargo, la actual tasa de propiedad de viviendas entre los latinos de Oregon es del 37%, que es significativamente menor al promedio nacional y del estado.

LHI es una organización miembro de Operation H.O.M.E. (Operación CASA), cuya meta es eliminar la disparidad en la propiedad de viviendas de las minorías en Portland hasta el año 2015.
