Tinny, like USN mentioned below, the use of the Chem Light on a string came out of signaling craft at night whether boat or aircraft, to designate your LZ or pick up zone. HOWEVER, the use of a visible light stick is not advised in war time, as you can tell they are hard to see by the naked eye. Under night vision they stand out BIGTIME but so do you. So, what we use are IR Chem Lights and night vision, very good system. Love your stoves, gear and videos, keep em coming!

Tinny, if you boil the like stick for a few it will burn 2 or 3 times brighter. I'm not sure that would help your experiment. You lose a lot of light time after boil but the thing does shine a lot brighter. Just an FYI. Peace

I dont know about how much brighter but we use the ones that last alot longer. Just dont look for the cool bright orange ones. Those are minute men. Pretty though.

yeah I played around with mirrors too...yep you catch the rays by moving the mirror around...I used to use this mirror to play tricks on this girl i went to high school with...her house was close to half a mile away..that sun i was reflecting was bright too
Helicoptering a "good" glow stick at nite works really well. I would know, I've vectored a submarine to my position swimming at nite in the middle of the pacific ocean. So you keep watching rambo and let the survival up to people who know what their talking about. Though I will say an IR strobe works better.

I don't think the walmart stick are very good---I have seen stick that would work but they are special high quality extra bright models

The military uses brighter glow sticks that last for about 5 minutes.

Yes --I have seen them and I beleive they would work well for this application--but--this was to show that people doing survival videos that use off the shelf glow sticks are full of it. Along with using condoms for water storage.

Glad to see you doing this Tinny.
I plan on doing them myself and selling on Ebay. Just need a cost product way to sell a competitve 'good' kit. But I'm close to it.
This is my area of expertise, I believe. It comes down to the kit, knowing really how to use it, and knowledge of survival to supplement it.
You should watch my gear videos. Take it or leave it.
Hava good one Tinny!
