This is from the recently released "By Way of the Drum", which before last year was the legendary unreleased Funkadelic CD from the 80's.

This song was also released under the name of "Back Up Against The Wall" in 1995 on the P-Funk All-Stars' "Dope Dogs" CD. I believe the date of this song is anywhere
from '84-89.

Funk on!

  • Still had the Funk even into the 80's. Sounds a bit similar to their Funk disciples, Fishbone and the Chili Peppers.

  • Can't find this boy in stores anywhere.

  • Never heard this before & wish I never had. Oh well, I guess all the greats fall off some time. The funk is gone, replaced with pop rock. Seen Parliament/Funkadelic recently on their European tour. Glad to report Clinton has got the funk back & the only 80's era played was Atomic Dog. I have some of his later stuff which is funkier/more spaced out than this but still nothing like the true Funkadelic era. Hats off to the man though & the talent he assembled, true genius & still going strong.

  • Badass bass line. I'm gonna learn to play this right away, yeah. =D

  • "By The Way of the Drum" i think was a familiar phrase with Brotha J from X-Clan in the late 80's.

  • ya. sounds a lot like fishbone, i always think that when i listen to funkadelic

  • You Are Right.I use my Roxio Program to recosr good songs off of you tube and other similar sites.

I search for good music everywhere, FYE, Amazon, thrift stores. And on Amazon it seems all my favorite band's albums are like $20 +. Fuck that shit, and people wonder why people pirate, amirite?

  • @itsmehankee Indeed they were. I think anyone after 1980 that was getting funky was in one way or another inspired by P-Funk.
