2007 Chicago SummerDance with Balkan Cabaret and Ethnic Dance Chicago
SummerDance is an eleven-week free dance festival running from early June to late August every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening, 6 to 9:30 pm, and Sunday afternoon, 4 to 7 pm, weather-permitting. SummerDance Programs featuring one-hour dance lessons by professional instructors, followed by two hours of live music and dancing on a 4,600 square foot open-air dance floor in the Spirit of Music Garden in Grant Park, 601 S. Michigan Ave. Admission is free and open to the public.
Balkan Cabaret is Joe Finn (violin and clarinet); Michael Lawson (accordion and vocals); Steve Ramsey (guitar, tambura, bugarija and vocals); Mary Sherhart (vocals); Rich Thomas (bass and vocals), with guest John Morovich (prim, brac and vocals).
On Thursday, July 12, 2007, SummerDance featured a memorable night of ethnic music and dance, with dance teaching by Paul Collins of Ethnic Dance Chicago and live music played by Balkan Cabaret (Seattle, WA). Balkan Cabaret remained in the Chicago area following their gig at the Door County Folk Festival (www.dcff.net).
Ethnic Dance Chicago (EDC) is a multi-ethnic, multi-generational community of people who enjoy the dances and music of many countries and ethnic groups from around the world. As our motto indicates, we regard "Dancing As A Second Language". Ethnic Folk Dancing is a great social mixer and aerobic workout.
