An overall review of the Roland GR-55 Guitar Synthesizer. I discuss the overall functions of the GR-55. If you are considering buying the GR-55, this video will give you a good overview of the product.

I don't highlight too many specific sounds as there are so many to go through. If you are interested in hearing specific sounds, please post a comment and I will make another video for you highlighting those sounds. Feel free to comment and ask any questions you have and I will answer them the best I can.

I hope this video is helpful to you, if it is, please click on the like thumbs up button and/or subscribe. I'm posting reviews of all kinds of gear and video lessons and tips for guitarists.

I also have a demo of the Acoustic sounds.

  • specifically, do you think the xtsa works well with the gr55? I am about to get both so I need to know if it is just better to use the gk3 pickup on my Ibanez ag95. or use an xtsa. Thanx for your help

  • @uriahsmusic Yes and no. It works better and worse than the GK-3 in some ways. I feel that the tracking might be slightly better on the XTSA, but you will get more ghost notes with it to. The RMC pickup on the XTSA picks up extra subsonic frequencies that trigger unwanted notes. This is not a problem for me as I mostly use the PCM sounds for Pad/String sounds and it's a problem with percussive sounds like piano and drums.

  • @uriahsmusic There is a product called the OPT-1 subsonic filter that eliminates this. It's made by RMC I think. It's about $165. Overall, I don't think you need the XTSA is you like your guitar now. The GK-3 will do just fine. I hope that helps.

  • I have a question. Can you still use your amp head distortion or clean channel while going through the gr 55? Like being able to bypass it I guess is what I am asking.

  • @movinon6161 Yes, there is actually a totally separate guitar output if you want the guitar signal untouched. And another stereo out with the synth sounds. So you could go Guitar out to your amp and mono or stereo out with synth sounds to the PA or another amp.

  • Hey Kennis thanks for the helpful videos you have posted on this great unit. I actually bought this product a few weeks ago based on your review. I'm also in a worship group in my church and am fairly new to all this gear stuff and don't quite understand it all. You were showing how you could assign the expression pedal to play a clean acoustic guitar sound and then slowly introduce an electric guitar sound, that was pretty cool. Do you think you could explain how that was done? Any help with

  • @Godssupersoldier777 Sure, I actually have a 4 part tutorial of the gr-55 on my youtube channel. Make sure and watch those videos. They will answer many of your questions. If you still can figure it out, let me know. But I show how I did that in the video.
