The debut of the guitar I finished making only yesterday when the bridge was glued on and then a few hours later it was strung up and set up :-)

Its my best yet, based on a Martin Stauffer style that they have, conicidentally, just re-issued as part of their 175th anniversary limited editions - mine cost me a lot less than one of those though :-)

Sitka spruce top with abalone rosette, quilted mahogany back and sides, striped ebony fingerboard with Martin style 42 inlays, ornate ebony bridge, bone nut and saddle of course !

Currently features some horrid old brass bridge pins, ebony with pearl dots to replace them once I can locate my bridge pin hole reamer !!!

I'm rather proud of it already, sounds light and crisp and airy and balanced, just like a Martin 12-fret 00 style shouild, can't wait for it to play in and open up some more :-)

The tune is based on Ralph mcTell's song of the same title that advertised tickety-boo tea :-)

  • you like these better than bone pins ?

  • @wisesatyr72 well, I went through a phase of trying them but I am back to using bone pins - there was something slightly harsh about the brass ones I thought. It suited some stuff but overall I think I prefer the bone ones nowadays - definitely not wooden ones, they soudn dull to me, like they absorb or fail to transmit some of the energy or something

  • PLAYING LIKE THA ON A GUITAR YOU MADE ...THATS JUST SHOWING OFF.....LOL........AND YES I'M JEALOUS ! THANKS FOR POSTING

  • @jimbo9580 lol

  • Great sound and playing. Lovely-looking guitar although, for my tastes, the scroll headstock is way out of proportion. Was it a complete DIY project or based on a kit? Good work.

  • well, its all my own work except the neck came from the Martin factory as a disgarded 'second' from a limited edition run they did. I did everything else.

  • @houndheadhenry yeah I bought some ebony pins for an old alvarez laminated rosewoods sides and back w/Solid spruce top, it wasnt that hot. Those pins costs more than the bone.

  • where do you learn luthery

i've been wnting to learn to make acoustic guitars for a few years now, i just don't know where to start

  • VERY nice job, then. You've obviously got the skills of a very competent luthier.
