Based on Mireille Mathieu's age, I guess this video was made in the early 70s. At that time, the Soviet was one of piece. Therefore dressing as a Russian woman while singing about Odessa was not a big deal at that time. However, I was disappointed about the song writer's failing to do some homework about Neva river as well as the steppes. Does any one know if Ukraine has the steppes or not?
A beautiful song and a talented singer, downgraded by some ignorance by the West media.

Similar sentiments expressed by others below. But its a soundscape adventure fairy story of rhyming and striking images and words and sounds like Robin Hood or Santa Claus. Political correctness kills myth, kills poetry,kills imagination. Mimi is fabulous no mtter what she sings.

Right, Odessa is not on Neva, but far more down south, it's a port on Black Sea. Clearly, whoever wrote the lyrics had no idea about geography. But Mimi and her great voice make up for that mishap.

Yes. Poetic licence. Rhyming words more important than Geograhical correctness.
And yes, Mimi is exquisite.
