This is late but the real term is muzzle climb instead of recoil.

If you use the Assault rifle and SMG you don't need to conserve ammo so much.

recoil was put a ton in this game because your a weaker, and i would say the best is plasma rifle and pistol, excluding power weapons, because it is quicker to take out brute armor and more ammo conservative but i still normally stay with carbine and pistol on campaign

Halo ODST was a mistake. The game should have been skipped. And moved right to Reach.

i dont have xboxlive but the halo 3 multiplayer beta and i tested the smg on round you look at the sky

I think this game needed a cover system, would have enhanced the effect of just being one of the marines and fighting with them in the trenches
