During the fall of 2009, we followed Elementary Education senior Allie Malmstrom of Thomaston, Maine as she did her student teaching at Cascade Brook Elementary School in Farmington, just minutes from campus. Under the watchful guidance of her mentor teacher, Rick Hardy (a Farmington alumnus) Allie gained valuable hands-on learning experience teaching a 5th grade class at the school. One of the many things that make our Education programs so well respected is the fact that our students are required to practice in the field what theyĆve learned in the classroom. At Farmington, students get in-the-classroom experience early and often. In fact, your first "teacher side of the desk" experience in a school classroom comes in your sophomore year! Student Teaching, Practicum, Professional Portfolios, Peer Advising and a solid, adaptable foundation based in the liberal arts are just some of the reasons our teaching graduates continue to be in such high demand.
