Dover Shame starts with a brief history of live export campaigning; evidence of the EU's power and influence over the UK government is then graphically highlighted. However, what Dover Shame is specifically about is a demonstration which took place in May 2006 to mark the lifting of an EU ban on the live exporting of calves. The ban had been put in place to curb the spread of BSE. A coalition of animal campaigning groups came together to resist the EU's decision. These included Compassion in World Farming, Viva! and Animal Aid.
