This song by Kenny Rogers reminds me of buddies I saw hurt physically and mentally in one of our wars who had to come home and face adversity. It is also a song that creates a bond with other veterans that gave a good years of their live for you and the country. For me it was an honor to were the uniform of my country and be a dam good soldier.

Typical response. Someone acts differently, does differently and probably looks differently from you, so you insult them. You're either racially, sexually, religiously, politically, or financially prejudice.

I have to agree. It was a service to the country and we did it the best we could. Politics and governmental policies don't come into play in the military any more than it does in any other employment. I felt that as a country I had a responsibility to something for the country and not just for myself. I was proud of the Army. And I would have laid down my life for any of the other guys I served with. No question.

You have to separate the soldiers from the military and political leaders. The leaders send people to die for dubious causes. The people who join the armed forces go where our government sends them, and generally fight for the people who serve beside them and the loved ones they leave behind. I support our troops because i want them to come home, and want the US to stop sending them places for economic reasons.

Anyone who has served in the military knows what I am saying. You perform in a manner that brings honor to your branch of service and country.

What, precisely, is a damn good soldier in your view?

My question is sincere, and I hope your answer will be too.
