A vocal solo by Bob Shane of the Kingston Trio, accompanying himself on guitar and joined by fellow original Trio members Dave Guard on banjo and Nick Reynolds on tenor guitar. "Blow The Candle Out" is an old English sailors song (though not a chantey per se) dating from 1724 or earlier and also known and sung in Ireland, Scotland, and the U.S. This version is unusual in that it substitutes "Portland, Maine" as the locale of the song rather than the more often heard "Boston." From the 1960 Kingston Trio album "Make Way."
They really, really knew what they were doing. These songs --and there's a bunch of 'em --are simply unmatched. The sound, the exuberence, the lifting nature of the whole body of work --are a small miracle.

...Still wonderful after a half century...I always loved the Kingston Trio, but only with the fullness of time, have I come to recognize, how truly amazing these guys were...!!

Gorgeous. Bob Shane's smoky baritone. I'd do him in a second.

One of the best love songs the Trio ever did. The words say it all.
