a 1949 Muntz television with example of peculiar warmup due to cost-cutting design by Earl Madman Muntz. The vertical also collapses when changing channels or if the signal gets weak enough. The vertical collapsing when nothing is being adjusted on the television is due to me switching the filters around on the antenna.

  • Neat! It works good! Is that original parts or is it restored?

  • It's got new capacitors all through it and a few new tubes. The original Muntz-labeled CRT tests a bit on the weak side for emissions but surprisingly displays a nice picture still after nearly 60 years.

  • It displayed a Zenith logo while warming up!

  • I'd love for it to have displayed a Muntz logo, but since my DVD player is a Zenith (aka Lucky Goldstar these days....) that's what I got ;)

  • It's weird to see a modern show on it.

I was expecting it to receive long ago TV signals, which are still out there!

  • amazing that the tube still works after 60 years

  • HEY! I was watching that! :)

  • damn that is like a marty mcfly going back in time old tv

  • and I thought my new TV took a long time to turn on!

  • It seems somehow wrong seeing today's obnoxious, loud, fast-paced ads on such a dignified-looking old TV.

  • @MiKikaIwaShizaru I'm amazed it can display them! I thought the number of picture-lines had changed over the years and surely this would prevent it displaying correctly. Apparently not!

  • Vertical sweep seems to be cutting out intermittently. she has a problem.

  • @MegaKillerclowns no that why its saids 1949 Muntz television warmup and over the air reception

  • I don't understand how people could watch TV on these tiny things from their couches, especially with half of the picture cut off!

  • thats awesome is it hooked up to cable

  • Is that Zenith screen real? Is that advertisement or not?
