Two brief clips of Southern Railway steam excursions stopping in Eutaw, Alabama.
The first shows 2-8-0 no. 722 and 2-8-2 no. 4501 bound for Meridian, Mississippi, on August 19, 1973. The next day the train would continue to New Orleans for the National Railway Historical Society convention.
The second clip is no. 4501 heading to New Orleans on Nov. 4, 1976.
@atsf3415dbr 610 refers to Tennessee Valley Railroad 610, another 2-8-0 that operated on Southern excursions for a time. T&P 610 will not see a return to steam any time soon.

@trainmandan05 Wait, by 610 to you mean the big T&P 2-10-4 that's at the Texas State Railroad?

Good news 4501 and 630 along with Sou#610 will be operating on NS rails by means of an agreement with Norfolk Southern.

Wow I was a fireman on that train that day. I was a student and wrote a story about it in our local paper in Gulfport Ms called The Gulfport Pictorial Review titled " The Sounds of the Old Steam Engine Still Echos Through The South" I met Mr Paul Meriman that day. Long Live the 4501!

Two gems in the locomotive world!!! I've been able to ride behind both of them. 4501 back in 1992 to Chattanooga and 610 in 2009 in Chattanooga. LOVE THEM!! :D
