This is one of Al Jarreau's many beautiful and cleverly written jazz pieces from the album This Time. Think this one came out in 1981.

  • This song is so beautiful, it can't be described in words....

  • If you want to hear what made music so great yesteryear, just listen to the playing of the instruments in this song especially whoever that is killing the keyboards. Good music along with nice lyrics cant be substituted for sampling and beats. Al Jarreau is an icon

  • @summersbr1 And sampling is an art, too. There's some people who don't even know how to sample the right song for their music. You know that Otis song by Jay-Z and I think Kanye West? I guess it's grown at me, but when I first heard it, I thought... what in the world is this? And with that random James Brown scream... and I think Jasmine Sullivan sampled "I Don't Wanna Lose You" by Phyllis Hyman, but the beat they chose sounds like kindergarden.

  • This was a real musical collaboration. You can tell everyone who participated worked hard on this. That's the way music should be.

  • Al (Alonzo) like all of us declare that we must reach heaven or that ultimate level of existence with GOD, perfection, no pain, peace and Love, all during life's trials and tribulations we tend to drift away yet we yearn to be with God in that day when wild animals will play, not fight like they do today. Truly one of the most dramatic masterpieces in Jazz as the song reaches it's climactic level where Alonzo lifts his hands up to pray, the end where Alonzo reaches heaven and is welcomed by GOD

  • @lucymcgillicuddy14 My mama said it was about him. You know his real name is Alonzo. I thought maybe it was about his career, his life, some choices he made, you know? I do have my own opinions about the meaning of this song, though.

  • @Angelicalovessolur....I miss my mother so much, it will be two months, tomorrow, Jan. 16 since she been gone. It feels so long. Thank you for your kind words and thoughts. Peace unto you.

  • Reminds me of freshman year at Notre Dame 1982. I would listen to this almost every night before I went to sleep. Go Fisher Hall!!!

  • The lyrics were esoteric...yet I totally "got" the spiritual vibe. The work that Al did with Jay Graydon & David Foster tended towards a power pop / jazz sound. But this cut here hit dead center on a style I call "rare groove" .

  • @mochaboi...I was touch by your comment about your beloved mom.I share in your feelings regarding my late big sister 1960-2006.At times it's hard to listen to without feeling sad.It usually subsides and all I feel is the love we have for each other....Knowing we will meet again.Peace,Love,Light and Blessings to you

  • The ULTIMATE performer Alwin 'Al' Jarreau, there will never ever be another!!!!
