Melanie Safka - Lovin' Baby Girl
From the album - Candles In The Rain 1970.

I was a lovin baby girl
Mommy, daddy had I none
Be my mommy, daddy
I will be your lovin one

Before the time I knew your face dear
I was doing very well
If I never knew your kisses
I'd never known that I'd been in hell

If I had some pennies
I could have a world of fun
Give me all your pennies
And I will be your lovin one

Once upon a winter time
I lost Christmas in my mind
I looked through all the windows round
To find a star I hadn't found
Then all at once
Before I knew
Christmas froze my soul into
A cryful night I had a dream
And saw a place I'd never seen

If I had some pennies
I could have a world of fun
Give me all your pennies
And I will be your lovin one

I was a lovin baby girl
Mommy, daddy had I none
Be my mommy, daddy
I will be your lovin one

  • dude that was so cool, other people might not get the song against all the clips but I do. they're so different but really they work well with the song. Shoot 'Em Up and the prostitutes paint a gritty picture during the verses, and the star-child and fantasy sequences from Fountain and Line, Cross & Curve totally match the song's surreal second half. now when I listen to Candles in the Rain I'm gonna think of 2001 and the Irma la Douce hooker dance scene when it gets to this song...very cool!

  • @aboyintheband

    thanks Jeremy

there's a lot of benefit to taking time each day to think about Shirley Maclaine dancing like a hooker

  • what film is this? Came for the song but film looks interesting!

  • @MenCap7

  • Classic song, love the arrangements on the older albums. Strange collection of vid clips but quite entertaining
