Computer Illiteracy is one of the largest problems that Iraqi society faces. In order to build a society full of people equipped with knowledge in all fields, Iraqi society must educate its people for the sake of a developed and peaceful Iraq. The Al Shahidayen Assadrayen Center, one of the civil society centers, is a leader in the computer literacy trainings.

Sawssan Jirk, from the Al Shahidayen Assadryaen center of Women Ambitions, says in the interview, "The center of Women Ambitions strives to empower women and develop their IT Skills through conducting IT trainings inside and outside of the city. These trainings were in coordination with the Al Amal Association which first took place in 2007 and then were renewed in 2009."

Sawssan continues, "The main objective of these trainings are to fight IT illiteracy, especially among women, by helping them acquire the necessary IT skills to find a good job. The trainings also included Professional Development workshops, which helped women develop their CV and cover letter while teaching skills in writing, public speaking, and team work. In addition, the workshops focused on the creation and the management of small businesses to help women generate more revenue."

Alaa Ali, The Program Manager for Women in Technology in Iraq, explained, "Since its launch in Iraq in 2006, WIT focused on developing and empowering women through IT and preparing them for better inclusion into the job market. In most of the countries that host the WIT program, only women participate in the trainings. Iraq was an exception since men in Iraq are also deeply in need IT and Business trainings. The program is the only program in all of Iraq that provides a Microsoft certificate to participants after completing the course. I believe that the WIT Program in Iraq through its partnership with the Al Amal Association is truly successful and we are so proud of this cooperation. I hope that this program continues to impact many more individuals throughout the MENA region."

Ahmed Fouad, one of the WIT Participants in Iraq describes his training. "We started the training, which lasts for two months, and we were able to take courses in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Professional Development." He continued, "These trainings allowed us the opportunity to expanded our knowledge in the fields, to know new people and to work hard for a better future."

Rana Hadi, a WIT trainer at the Iraqi Al Amal Association said that as trainer of the WIT program, her duty is to train the participants on two levels: The first level is the IT training which includes all the UP Curriculum of Microsoft. The Second level is the professional training, which prepares the participants for the job market by helping them gain all the necessary professional skills to facilitate their professional development. In addition to these two fields of WIT trainings, they also offer trainings on the creation and the management of the small projects.

Rana states, "My experience as a WIT trainer has been very rewarding. I enjoy training the participants even though their educational and IT background varies from one participant to another. This would normally seem like an obstacle, but turns out to be fruitful because the training reaches such a wide range of individuals. I am very proud that we are able to give such trainings to our participants seeing that women in particular are suffering from lack of job opportunities in Iraq and seeing the harsh conditions they are living in. We are cooperating together as WIT trainers and Team to fight the IT illiteracy."
