I'm French and lerned continental but in school there were girls who did it english style, I was one of the few who did the continental style but now I'm glad I learned this way.
When I do stranded I use both techniques and am not very fast 'throwing'. I aim to reach the speed of this knitter because I'm not sure circular needles are so much better than a set of 5. That is, once you can handle the idle ones and not let them bother you, then it's smooth sailing.
This lady knits like I knit! I had no idea it was called "continental knitting"! Actually i just went to check it in Wikipedia. I was tutored by my Mother-in-law (who's german).
And taught myself to knit socks with 5 double pointed needles. But i've noticed that my heel is different from what i see around here. I make one called "Boomerang heel", which to me seems much easier that the one where you need to flap or whatever you call it.
