@jayscott49 yes the crawl. My band pays that .I love that solo.Just watching this vid once didnt notice but after your comment,i agree.Nick is still the man though.I dig em both...
Exactly. I love Jimmie Vaughan, he brought those guys from the 50's and early 60's to us in the 80's, 90's and up to today. But you have to know where he's coming from and understand what you are really hearing. I wish he'd record an album at Fort Horton.
The opening of Nick's solo here is a direct quote from JV's 'the crawl' solo from, i think, the second T-Birds record 'What's the Word?' He quotes directly like this from JV often. Last time I saw Jimmie at Antone's he opened with a killer slow blues (worth the price of admission and more by itself) and said afterward, 'People ask me what I'm doing- BB King and Johnny Guitar Watson.'
Nick has a PhD in Clarence Gatemouth Brown, Johnny Guitar Watson, T-Bone Walker and Pee Wee Crayton among others. That's where Jimmie Vaughan got his style from. Nick's music doesn't have much in common with Jimmie Vaughan other than the roots of their playing styles and that Jimmie was/is a hero Nick's.
... and Jimmie Vaughan's solo on "The Crawl" is a direct quote from the original, Guitar Junior version :)

JV and the Horton Bros are a perfect match, no doubt.
