Check out your state laws but remember that you may have extra city laws depending on your states law set-up.

Also know that you generally will have to have a good reason for carrying the knife, and usually self defense does not cover it.

In some states and areas, not only are their size restrictions, there is also restrictions on the blade shape, usually phrased in a way to say "a non threatening shape" meaning it has to be pretty plain and standard.

Also, it is always illegal to carry a weapon with the intended purpose of harming others, that is why self defense is not a good excuse. Also, carrying a weapon when you are commiting other crimes makes it illegal, this could even include traffic violations, or carrying of substances.

  • I don't understand what people mean by "locking blades". Isn't that the whole point of a knife, or else how is it going to stay open?

  • @lorderik237 Slipjoints are non locking

  • Is my ti lite a gravity knife? I can manage to open it without the thumb stud or anything like that.

  • @askAlanNow It can and can not be depending on what the police/DA says it is. But basically yes. Many knives that are not are actually gravity knives because they can be opened with just motion, weirdly that is never really the fastest or most efficient way to open them lol. But could be illegal none the less. I suppose if the cop could figure out how to do it then you would be in trouble.

Although I have heard about cops "just not liking how fast it comes out" so there is no telling.

  • This was an excellent video. Too bad, knife laws (as well as pretty much any other law) were NOT authored to serve the interests of everyday citizens. My state's knife laws actually state that IT WILL BE DECIDED LATER IN COURT IF WHAT YOU WERE CARRYING IS LEGAL OR NOT! Why not just write:

"If you're white and drive a sports car then it's legal if you're anything ELSE then it was not."

  • More people are killed by cars than by knives.

  • I think all weapons laws are unfair in the USA. The 2nd amendment declares all citizens the RIGHT to bear arms if that person wishes to. It doesn;t matter whether gun or knife.

  • Thanks man! Good video!

  • I'm not so sure about my state laws. Does stiletto count as switch blade?

  • In my town cops may look over a technically illegal blade if it seemed reasonable to them individually. This is an unsafe town. So they usually sympathize with your position, as long as you haven't been deemed a threat, or was doing something illegal to begin with. I've heard one story, ever, of someone gettin charged with an otf. Misdemeanor. Lots of people here carry large blades, autos, fixed or ti-lite or whatever... I'm jus sayin, It flies down here.

  • @lorderik237

a locking blade would be a blade that requires the manipulation of something OTHER than the blade to close. often called lockbacks.

  • What other people think I should or shouldn't own is irrelevant to me. If I want to own a balisong then I will regardless of your stupid laws. If someone says I cant do this whatever this may be they can cup my balls and suck my fat cock!

  • @ontarioman100 DUMB SCUMFUCKS do!

  • you only see criminals using auto-knives in movies.

  • good vid
