This is one of the most amazing Dolly songs ever! It was originally supposed to be the title track of a 2005 album, it never came to be. This song SO needs to be released on album but until then, here's the live version. Written by Dolly herself
Lyrics-
Blue smoke climbin' up the mountain Blue smoke windin' round the bend Blue smoke is the name of the heartbreak train That I am ridin' in I left a note I wrote I'm leaving And I won't be coming back Blue smoke rolling, rolling, rolling Rolling, rolling down the track Oh, click-ad-ee, click-ad-ee, click-ad-ee clack Just stay on track an' never look back Choo-choo, choo-choo, woo-woo-woo Blue smoke is comin' through
Oh I know I'm gonna miss you But I hope it ain't for long And I wonder if you're even gonna notice that I'm gone Oh it hurts to know you cheated And it hurt to know you lied But it hurts me even worse to know you never even tried
I packed my suitcase full of heartaches Headin' to the train depot And I bought a one-way ticket On that train they call Blue Smoke Left the station straight-up midnight Feelin' lonely, lost and blue In a trail of blue smoke with my heart broke Said good-bye to you
Repeat First Chorus
Second Chorus:
Blue smoke climbin' up the mountain Blue smoke windin' round the bend Blue smoke is the name of the heartbreak train That I am ridin' in I left a note I wrote I'm leaving And I won't be coming back Blue smoke rolling, rolling, rolling Rolling, rolling down the track

I heard Dolly sing it at Dollywood and couldn't wait for it to be released and of course was sadly disappointed when it never was. It is such a great song, and matches Dolly so well. For some reason, all the train songs seem to fit her. Maybe because she is an unstoppable force of music and just keeps rolling down the line like a train lol Thanks for uploading it!
LOL...I was there for this performance. I'm one of the crazies screaming and freaking out. We all knew Blue Smoke was set to be the title track of the next album: tragic it was set aside for the dismal "Those Were the Days" covers album project.
How can you tell which performance it was? I heard it at Dollywood and then on the "Hello, I'm Dolly" tour in Greenville, SC. Because in Greenville (the first stop on the tour) we started cheering when she started saying something about it, and she said "Well, how did you know? Oh, you must have heard it at Dollywood."
Ahh, yes, the 'Hello, I'm Dolly" Tour kick off in Greenville....I was there as well...lol. So either way, my big mouth is in this recording. I am still pretty sure this is Dollywood....the "Hello, I'm Dolly" version was a bit more "enhanced" vocally if you know what I mean...;)

P.S. You didn't like "Those Were The Days?"
