On Talking Point tonight we ask whether Arundhati Roy should be charged with sedition after she said that the Indian state was indulging "in one of the most brutal military occupations in the world"?
@amithbn Considering that over 400,000 kashmiri pundits have been either killed or displaced by militants, the deployment of troops can be justified on the grounds that it is preventing a genocide-much like the liberal interventionism of Clinton and Blair in former Yugoslavia. What is more, india is not the first democratic nation to occupy territory in order to ensure its own security (just look at how israel occupied the gaza strip and the golan heights for the best part of half a century).
@XXXFreeSpirit If you so deeply care about democracy, you'd rather oppose deployment of troops and free the people of Kashmir from this heavy militarization, the densest in the world. Which other nation that calls itself a democracy locks down a place with so much force? And the uncritical minds of Indians who have accepted a false narrative, rationalizing the robbery of freedom of its people and now extending that to its character and identity is rather shocking.
@XXXFreeSpirit Kashmir is not wherever. It is not an integral part of India and its accession has been provisional with a pending plebiscite to determine the will of Kashmiris. In this context was 370 introduced. The UN Security Council has repeatedly urged the Indian state for a plebiscite rejecting Indian attempts to substitute plebiscite with elections (rigged elections many times). So your argument of mobility of Indians does not apply to this region.
@amithbn Why not? People who r citizens of India have the right to choose where in India they want to settle or buy property, Kashmir or Bihar or wherever.. Just because the valley is predominantly Muslim doesn't mean that poor Biharis cant settle in Kashmir. Indian is a secular republic not the kingdom of Saudi Arabia where non-Muslims have restricted rights, remember? Or r the Kashmiris of the valley above other Indian citizens? If India discriminates on the basis of religion its not secular.
@amithbn u hit the nail ryt on spot bro.n people m not a muslim or a missionary...
