Lonnie Frisbee was a young hippie seeker fully immersed in the 1960s counter culture when he claimed to have experienced an encounter with God while on an acid trip. This event so transformed him that Lonnie became an itinerant Christian evangelist, something of a John the Baptist of Southern California who compelled thousands toward a profession of faith in Jesus Christ.
What makes the story most fascinating is that his call into the ministry came while deeply involved in the Laguna Beach homosexual scene. Because he died as a result of AIDS in 1993 he has been marginalized from history by the very men whom he helped establish with their ministries.

Old hymns are where it's at. My current favorite is a bluegrass cover of How Firm a Foundation by youtube user BestLovedHymns, you should check it out (youtube doesn't allow linking to other videos for some reason).

@trilobright The "Jesus music" you speak of is what led to the contemporary music of today. It was a natural progression. The preaching of the people that made that '60s-70s music was very often wrong and so now we have churches with weak doctrine and bad music.I listened to that "Jesus freak" music back in the day and heard all sorts of warped teachings from the people who promoted it.If you want music that honors Christ, check out the old hymns. A lot of them will be a blessing to listen to.

Can anyone recommend some good "Jesus music" from the 1960's and 70's? It sounds so sincere and reverent! The contemporary Christian music that evolved from it in recent years is just terrible imo, so commercial-sounding and hollow. It all sounds exactly the same, with trembling, breathy vocals reminiscent of an amateur actor's butchered attempt at affecting religious ecstasy.

Brian Welch from Korn came to faith in the same way.

Only way this dude could have admitted Jesus was God and given Him the glory; through the Holy spirit. This dude was out doing the footwork. Yes, he looked stranged and allegedly did strange things. Have u sinned? He was put on blast for aids and homosexuality. Some even said that Christ and the disciples were gay. This is wrong. We don't know about Lonnie. If God could use David, Peter, and a donkey He could use Lonnie.
