  • I give these guys credit for for writing the song, but they're not 10% the band that La Sombra was and IMO La Sombra version of the song is easily much better than the original thats why they were able to go to #1 with it while Oasis went nowhere.

  • A little history on why La Sombra recorded this song. Oasis and La Sombra actually hooked up and did one tour together in Texas. Oasis was promoting "La Cumbia del Sapito" on that tour. Cumbias where not too popular in the Tejano market but this one received alot of airplay. Even on the "Totally Tejano" radio show. After the tour, Oasis and La Sombra parted ways. Oasis decided to go to a bigger market which was the grupero market. It recorded several grupero albums and Toured Mexico and US.

  • Meanwhile La Sombra stayed in Texas and would continually get asked about Oasis and if the could play "La cumbia de el Sapito". So they decided to start playing it at their dances and finally recorded it. You cannot really compare the two bands. One was a strictly Tejano band while the other started as a pop band, moved on to Tejano because of their recording contract with "Freddie Records", and finally topped it off with some beautiful grupero music.

  • Let me also add that all of the songs except for 1 or 2 were written by Oasis (you can verify that in their albums). They did not believe in copying other bands material. Did I mention that the Famous Selena was an Oasis fan? When she go to Chicago in the early days, she would always ask where they were playing. Not to take anything away from la Sombra as they were a great band but as cuau said above, "Oasis was more versatile" and loved by many. Not only in the US but in Mexico.

  • @gomejc Interesting, i remember seeing this performance when i was just a little boy. never really knew the group's name. i knew that la sombra was not the original of el sapo.

  • 1)el cantante de la sombra sounded better than larry, sorry dude he did!

    2) in this vid the fattass keyboard player was not in the scene, wise choice!

    3) any day now el larry will be like ricky martin------- out of the closet

  • This is very true, listen to the song, it was just changed to el sapito, i've always liked the sombra! they interpreted the song very well!!

  • No mis querido amigos tejanos esta cancion la grabaron en 1986 los "Liricos de Teran" aca en monterrey y era la cumbia del brinquito

  • Would you believe that there are a lot of Tejanos in the Midwest? third or fourth generations or even farther back. the Music gets played here, Tejano bands are formed... no surprise there. ; )

  • why do they live in Chicago, if they play Tejano style??ive notice that in a lot of bands from that era.
