The first P-3 Orion to receive the Mid-Life Upgrade (MLU) modifications was flown for the first time on July 19 from the Lockheed Martin facility in Greenville, SC.

  • Truboprops are more fuel efficient, especially at lower altitudes.  The P-3 makes a good platform for long duration surveillance. Refurbishing this aircraft makes it even more affordable than a new one.

  • @eyeverve Thank you so much for responding to my question. Your response was very informative. I'm still a bit baffled, though. I have heard of turbo props before, but why the use of prop blades and not the more traditional jet engines? Again, thank you for your kind attention.

  • @shysterlicious they are turbine engines driving props...it's called a turbo prop...basically jet engines that drive a gear box which spin a prop

  • Why is it prop airplane and not turbine engines?
