Moroccan media freedom on trial - 06 Sep 07

The case of Reda Benchemsi, a Moroccan journalist, is bringing the issue of media freedom in Morocco into full view, at the very height of the election campaign.

The editor of two independent newspapers, Benchemsi wrote an article on the king's eight-year legacy, and ended up asking the monarch: "brother where are you taking us"?

The article was perceived as showing disrespect to the monarchy, and now he has to convince the court his words were in fact completely appropriate.

don't lie on urself . imagine u got what u want then u have separated morocco in 2 pieces . i m very sure the illigal immigration rate from sahara into morocco gonna be very high . look the way ur thinking is very inresponsible . u just look for one aim . separation . but u don't think of what after !? u gonna be first isolated from europe usa ... i ve been studied with many sahrawi students here in rabat :they are just full of selfesh and a lot of self confidence ... u don t have that mind yet

I do not hate Morocco, but I do hate the occupation and repression of the Saharawi peoople. Can't I criticize the occupation without being a "Morocco hater"?

when i loked back to the 80s-still i keep some newspapers of that time-i still re-read the same story though. so all this controverse about the free media in morocco is just another joke, another lie...

It s easy to have the gusts to preach the CRISIS; it's hard to bring actually a change.we don't need preachers and preaching, we need rather action.i can't beleive in media freedom in morocco.those who dare trying such issues are however, am afraid to say, paradoxically maintaining the tradition...
