At 15:25 the camera should've just stayed there :) But really, the woman is actually saying that the rich people shouldn't get social security, isn't she? Only "people falling through the cracks"? Which makes sense, if it's a "safety net", then it should only kick in when you're having problems on your own, shouldn't it? If you're doing just fine after retirement on your private savings, why should the goverment look out for you?

Hoover doesn't quite get that the govt does not "take care of people" on Social Security. The Government administers the retirement fund that American workers contribute a portion of their earnings into. Why do they need a safety net? Because some people decide to feed their kids instead of investing in their retirement, some company executives raid pension funds, some 401k programs sink like a rock...things happen. Social Security belongs to the people who paid for it & it is solvent.

Social Security and Medicare are NOT a handouts! Workers contribute to the programs, investing in their retirement for decades. Recipients have not had a cost of living increase in over 2 years, thanks to manipulation of the market basket! Now, Republicans have the nerve to try to TAX seniors (cutting benefits = TAX) so that the wealthiest Americans can have permanent tax cuts! Bush's unfunded mandates have already increased state & local taxes. DON'T TAX SOCIAL SECURITY!

While I rarely agree with TYT, this is a fantastic interview. It was a great, frank conversation handled respectfully on both sides discussing pros & cons of different political and social principles. Well done TYT and Ms. Hoover.
