  • I am not a muslim but am learning and may do shahadah soon. A question....I live in the middle of the city and can not always see the moon from my north or west windows in my condo. How would I compensate for this?

  • Salaam,

As far as i know, we as the members of the public should go with whenever the local Muslim Institutions say when eid is.

  • Mufti Taqi Usmani حفظه الله stated: ‘In Saudi Arabia the sighting of the moon has been accepted before even the birth of the moon on many occasions which is impossible in my view. I have discussed the situation with many Saudi Scholars and they are also disturbed with these occurrences. However, since this is in the hands of the Majlisul Qadha Al-A’la (Saudi Supreme Court Riyadh) they are helpless.’ (19th Rabi us Thani 1412AH)

Ummm.. disrespecting him doesn't make you credibly convincing btw. Plus he said there are two views that you can follow, so follow your own without being upset at others. fyi, at the time of Khilafa, everyone followed the rules Khulafa rashideen (May Allah be pleased with them) But now the ummah is under many different kinds of governments (not Muslim) with funny names. So Khalifas used to sight the moon for us and tell us when to fast, but our funny governments don't.

  • Done did shadahah almost 2 years ago

Awww I hope by now you made your shahada already. May peace be with you :).. You should look for a moon sighting committee in your country.

  • 'Once in a blue moon it can differ by 4 days.....'

  • this stupid zakir naik is refusing the history...in the history of khilafah from the Prophet's time 622 CE till 1924 CE, all muslims celebrated the eid on the same day since that was practice of the Prophet (saw), the sahabs (R), the tabis and the tahi tabeins...

he is showing logic...however, islam is not based on logic...islam is rational...anyway i never liked his stupid logics...

he is far far away from the concept of rational islam followed by the prophet (saw)...

  • scientifically Dr. Zakir is correct but why not a shadah of a person of 1 area can be used for other areas and what is the daleel of creating a specific area where no such hadith mentions about area. the history has limitation of means of communication but there is no such limitation today, and Muslims are 1 ummat and these so called boundaries r new
