Nip/Tuck creator Ryan Murphy took on the daunting task of adapting the novel Running With Scissors by Augusten Burroughs into a screenplay. Most importantly he wanted to be true to the story but had to consolidate the epic tale that spans from 1972 to 1980. "I very quickly decided that this is a story of how a boy makes a family.
