Not timeless...prophetic! What they sang then has sadly become reality and there's no reason it has2be like this, but I think the keywords are "the people grew fat and got lazy
-
The spirit was freedom and justice And it's keepers seem generous and kind
It's leaders were supposed to serve the country But now they won't pay it no mind 'Cause the people grew fat and got lazy And now their vote is a meaningless joke. Now the state seeks to become our master.disguised as charity they place us in their yoke. They babble about hope and change now.But it's all just an echo of what they've been told.Yeah, there's a monster on the loose
It's got our heads into a noose
-
Now it's a monster that will not obey.
This is a great song, historically innacurate on a few details but the sentiment rings true today.
On this continent some "witches" got hung. burning at the stake was a European thing.Like being half hung & drawn and quartered or impalement .These are the reason our constitution forbids cruel and unusual punishment.
This is such a timeless tune as much of the lyrics still applies to these present times. Thanks for posting this version!

All them dreams sitting there as a child--watching our dear canadates, on tv-you ask
what this song means--just remember, as you,s pave your way to your dreams, the ones you break for others, along the way.
