In the 18th century, Pikworo was the site of a large slave camp in modern-day Ghana. African slavers would send captured slaves here while they awaited transport to the coast. The various ethnic groups that made up the camp's slaves often performed percussion and dancing performances while in captivity.

Pikworo Slave Camp (which President Obama visited in 2009) is now an educational site open to visitors. The local villagers perform drumming and dancing exhibitions similar to those performed by the captive men and women hundreds of years ago. In this video, Lily Atutiga joins the villagers with traditional dancing.
