Sonic Academy rework Fatboy Slim's 'Gangster Trippin' using Ableton Live 8.
All of the samples used are from the original tracks as sampled by Norman Cook (or as close as possible anyway!)

Hope you enjoy it and please share it if you like it

  • I sort of prefer the way we actually made it, to be honest.

(I engineered and mixed it, in case you wonder why I say that)

  • spot on, just like the Jim Pavloff videos remaking the prodigy :)

    thanks Sonic academy!!!

  • Excellent :) what u think of Norman cook

  • You are a genius!

  • I wanna eat your brain... :D man do I wish to be able to work like this in ableton..

  • 4:24 i checked my ichat to see who got online?

  • @simonth2 Someone makes an educational video, a humble tribute displaying useful sampling techniques, and you have the balls to come on here just to disrespect their work and brag about how you are much better. Prick. I'm sorry, but if you respect this guy you are an unbelievable tool.

  • Awesome how you found the samples. BUT. there is one that you missed. listen to Dr Alban - It's My Life. I'm pretty sure that fatboy slim samples the 'Pap Pap' vocal in this tune.

  • @rythmhead I agree, it's all well and good that someone can make an 'almost' replica of a tune that was made in 1998 using modern tech, but Norman was a pioneer in the big beat scene of the late 90's and this just goes to show how ahead if the game he was. If SonicAcademy reads this then please do vid of 'Pump Up the Volume' by MARRS.

  • @simonth2 Big up, Simon!!

  • What kind of programs and outboard equipment would have been used in 1998? I imagine you do this only using samplers, sequencers, outboard effects, turntables, tapes &/or CD players with little reliance on a standard computer.

  • I'm impressed, well done
