## Newtownards Road, Belfast Flag Protest 7th Jan 2013 ##
After a Peaceful Portest at Belfast City Hall the protestors returned to east Belfast, Whilst they passed the Short Strand they came under heavy brick and bottle attack..
As protestors moved on down the road they yet again came under missle attack yet the police then decided to Bring in a Water Cannon against those who had just been attacked..
Protestors were angry and felt yet again they were being forced inside their own communities whilst bricks and bottles continued to come in from the Strand.
Venting their anger the people from the East replied back at the Police actions with bricks and bottles and petrol bombs.
Road blocks were also set up and police then brought out Baton guns.
The nights events continued with street battles with police..
For some reason a public warning was given informing me that i was in danger of being hit with a baton round.. Why? im not acting in a violent manner, and if the officer firing the round hits me instead of his intended target then he shouldnt be using a Riot gun
as that could easily be another innocent bystander. Then again.. maybe they want to hit me too..
The nights tensions soon eased and rioters and crowds dispersed..
The police knew what would happen if they came in heavy again, so what is the real deal here, is it intentional to keep officers out there on the ground to justify something as there was simply no need for police to come in heavy with water cannon pushing people down their own community streets.
If people cant understand why these people got upset when they watched the strand attack them but yet again those who were attacked were forced down the road again like dogs.
