On June 15th the Great Race of antique cars will come to Binghamton, NY! The Binghamton stage will conclude the 4th racing day of the 1,500 mile trek from Chattanooga, TN to Bennington, VT. About 65 race cars will begin arriving from Hazleton, PA to finish on the Court Street Bridge at 5:00 PM. Organizers are planning a dazzling display of Americana and summer fun to welcome these racers to our hometown with local foods, music by the Scott Freeman Band, and a Cruisin' Buddies carshow. Spectators can view cars parked on Hawley and Washington Street until 7:00 PM. The racers and crews will night over at the Holiday Inn Arena. This is one Summer 2011 event you can't afford to miss!! The Great Race is an annual cross-country rally that pits driver/navigator teams against the clock and against each other. This year's event will be an East-Coast Rally through 8 states along the majestic Appalachian Mountain range. Entrants will participate in a timed-controlled speed-distance competition over scenic public highways and roads. The scores for each team are a result of the team's ability to follow the designated course instructions precisely. Following specific course instructions, teams navigate through 4 or 7 timed checkpoints each day. Their arrival time at each checkpoint is recorded and compared against the perfectly driven route, with each second off the perfect time, (either early or late) counted as penalty points. The winning team is the one with the lowest overall score (the most accurately driven route) at the end of the event.
