My 1999 Persian Gulf Deployment #5: Phuket, Thailand - James Bond Island

These videos are from my first deployment to the Persian Gulf, June-December, 1999. I was aboard HMCS Regina which was a part of a US Battlegroup headed by the USS Constellation aircraft carrier.

My time in Phuket, Thailand (remember, it's pronounced "poo-KET") continues with this day long trip to "James Bond Island". Parts of the 1974 James Bond movie "The Man With The Golden Gun" were filmed on this tiny island. Sounded like a good idea to go there but when you see how long it took and how little there was to see, gotta conclude that it was a waste of time.

Then again, where else could I feed bananas to the monkeys, get blessed by a monk and perform surgery on a big shrimp?
