I Participated this past weekend in the Non Competitive Category of the Chopin Society of Houston. I have been playing for 4 1/2 years now! I am recovering from a severed tendon in my right hand ring finger, that occurred 12 weeks ago. I initially chose NOT continue with the Music Preperatory Program, and did not send in the form for this competition until 2 days before the deadline......I am SO GLAD that I continued with lessons, and that I participated in this event!! I had SO much fun and met SO MANY wonderful and talented people!

I made MANY technical mistakes on the last page, and my scales were nonexistent! I do not feel this was related to my injury, rather my NERVES from a poor experience with this page in May! (The last 4 weeks, the last page has been near PERFECT...) What happened?......the power of performance nerves!
..... The mind has the power to both exceed our expectations, and to rob us of what we KNOW we are capable of executing! (2 1/2 years ago I said I would NEVER perform outside of my living room!)

My sincere hope is that this inspires others to reach for the sky, reach for what they fear cannot be....reach at any age(it's NEVER too late!), and to PLAY.....PERFORM...no matter what your fears or limitations may be.....Because in the end, it's NEVER about US, or our limitations.......It's about God's gift to us and to others.....It's about the MUSIC!! I had SO much fun! I feel like my performance has matured since May....despite the last page nerves! LOL! I am thankful to God for my recovery process, and my talents.....

back to the topic: i am so envious. i've been playing for twice as long, yet i can't execute the emotion so beautifully, like you have perfectly managed here.

  • Beautiful... I could feel the music... Really enjoyable!! I am going on the 27th for the Competitive Category of the Chopin Society of Houston's competition. Any thoughts or tips? It will be my first competition...

    Many greetings, Mike

  • Wow. I've had students who can play more technical pieces but not a sliver of the feeling you have. God gave you a gift and a voice. Please don't let it go.

  • Incredible, after a such short time you play the piano, this great and full of feeling performance!

Really amazing over and over again! :-)

  • The only problem I have with this is being limited to rating 5 stars...I'll have to send the admins an email to see if they'll add 5 more. Seriously though, amazing job!
