if you have a look at Tatort, Satisfaktion on youtube, it shows the closest "real" example to how it should actually look like! Still quite far from reality!

paukantenkreide links, paukantenkreide rechts!

@borsulinho OMG, da habe ich aber anders gefochten ..... Das sieht schlimmer aus als die erste Stunde auf dem Paukboden. Diletantisch wäre geschönt.

This is highly inaccurate. It is not as hard to gain access to actual bouts of academic fencing in Germany as people think. I advise the uploaders to either remain silent on the subject, or investigate it for themselves.

@ blablablaunimportant: please invest more time in research, especially when there are people that still do this kind of fencing. book might be a good source for information but only if you want to learn theoretical things.
So the uploader has no clue at all... And the two dumbasses don't even seem to know the tiniest bit about the olympic discipline. Someone who has ever received more than 1/2 hour of training on no matter which weapon will move differently.

@dl8rds Matt and Paul are in fact accomplished swordsmen in their own right, the reason that this looks nothing like Olympic fencing is because it isn't Olympic fencing. There trying to demonstrate Mensur a form of Duel practiced my certain German fraternity's. Mensur has a rich history that I've tried expose an American audience. That fight mind you looks nothing like Mensur but that really my fault not theirs (See the description)

what's mostly wrong about how they reenacted a mensur is that most blows would hit the (padded) arm of the opponent, not the blade. the idea is parrying with the arm while delivering (or preparing) a blow of your own.

@Pathos1648 To be honest most of my research regarded the history of the practice I did have couple of sources about the fighting style but to be honest it was difficult to derive the fighting style from a text source. I'm sure there is some discrepancy history too. Most of my information came from journals of English of American Scholars.
