Sydney Luthier Matthew Tucker refines the outside arching. Once the main shape is defined, it's a matter of getting all the curves tidy and smooth and even. A lamp is useful for this because it shows up irregularities. This is not just a visual task. A lot can be understood about the arching from the feel of the curves under the hands. The smallest bump can be felt.
