  • I understand that Sullivan wrote this after the death of his brother

  • A MOST WONDERFUL VOICE THAT NEVER FAILS TO TOUCH THE HEART. ONCE COULD NEVER TIRE OF IT.

  • What a wonderful recording and what an outstanding singer Webster Booth was.It is sad that he seems to have been neglected and largely forgotten for many years.I really hope that there will soon be a revival of interest in his work and that he will receive the credit and acclaim which he is surely due.Thank you so much for posting this superb version of a great song.

  • Wonderful in every way.

  • what a voice

  • Indeed, Webster Booth has done something very special with this song. He really touches the spirit of this song. He sings it beautifully, sensitive but without any false pathos. Really a top artist. I'm very happy that his voice comes to us so clearly and convincingly in a recording that was made a lifetime ago.

  • Stupendous!

  • This song struck the heart of A very lonely child. I only heard it. A few times but I have spent my life looking for The Lost Cord. I thought youtube would have it when I first heard of youtube. It didn't. I was still seeking The Lost Cord. Then Today because of a death I looked again. This was the rendition that touches the Lost Cord the best

  • Booth was a boy chorister at Lincoln Cathedral, and had a thorough musical training. He never quite transcends the 'English Choral Tradition' sound, and has a slightly nasal quality. But his top notes are firm and true. Any performance of Elijah or Messiah in which he sang would have been well worth hearing.
