It's possible for HIV to be transmitted through unsafe handling of pipes, but the real problem is hepatitis. Smoking crack causes cracked and bleeding lips, so sharing pipes can transmit diseases that way. Groups have been doing this in Canada and elsewhere for a while now. He didn't talk about it (or they didn't put it on film at least) but most of those kits have a separate mouthpiece, so that users who are sharing a pipe can just swap out the mouthpieces.

90% of crack pipes ive come across and used have been broken at some point and have a sharp edge. Contracting hiv through sharing a pipe is possible. who doesnt need a free crack pipe. Its almost as important as owning condems

This guy is an idiot. You cannot spread HIV through crack pipes. You can spread hepatitis but not HIV.

I'm in favor of any harm reduction methods that save money in the long run via not having to treat diseases that could have been avoided by clean pipes, needles, etc., but the idiot spokesperson shouldn't be in front of a camera talking about prevention of diseases that can't be transmitted through pipes to begin with.
