specs

CPU: amd opteron 170 @2.71 GHz
Memory: 2GB g-skill ddr400
videocard: geforce 6800 overclocked via rivatuner
Motherboard: Asus A8V

yes, I know my pc sucks, and I am not building another one until AMD comes out with their new line of CPU's so competition can drive the prices down a bit (who ever goes for core i7 now is being ripped off, the motherboards are insanely overpriced and overclock poorly compared to motherboards supporting the core 2 for less than half the price

Crysis was run on some low, and some, medium, with some settings on high (mainly ones that relied on the CPU)

second life, all settings maxed out (second life graphics look like they are from the 90's even when maxed out)

each time linden labs comes out with a new version, second life runs slower, a few versions ago, second life windlight used to have 25-30FPS

now it only has 6-20 FPS, but mostly around 10FPS

the graphics did not change at all, the programming just got worst

each time they fix 1 problem, 20 new ones appear

and reporting problems to http://jira.secondlife.com/secure/Dashboard.jspa does 100% nothing as problems reported almost on a daily basis (many of which are the same problem) have never been fixed and they have been reported multiple times over the past 2 years

PS be sure to skip past the loading screens

sry no sound in this video (while i could have added a music track in the video, theres a good chance that many people wont like the song and it is annoying to have to click on the mute button :) )

how can crysis run better than second life?, crysis looks better and has a further view distance

it is like that designed SL to be slow. second life only uses around 400-500 MB memory and only about 40% cpu usage

PS the graphics are much worst then they look in the video (crappy camera can make anything look ok)

  • Second Life runs best with nVIDIA cards. Unless you have a high end card like me, then you can't expect wonderful performance & quality. I have the nVIDIA GeForce 8800GT AMP adition, with 700mhz core clock. My cpu is AMD's Athlon 64x x2 6000 series, with 3.0ghz its a dual core. If you want SL to run smooth, take care of your pc and look for specs like those.

  • yep a little after posing the video i figured out why SL was so laggy. it only uses 20-40% gpu usage and 20-50% cpu usage.

on a geforce 8800, it still uses 20-40% cpu usage.

on a radeon 4870 is still uses 20-40% the game refuses to make full use .

it is like it is like buying a 12 pack of soda then throwing away all but 1 can,

Sl just refuses to make good full use of the systems

  • Its because crysis is preloaded and optimised, SL has dynamic content.

  • second life only uses about 20-30% gpu usage and about 40% cpu usage

I can run 2 copies of second life and the frame rates wont change at all and it still wont use full gpu usage or cpu usage. the game just runs slow in general

(I got another videocard today, SL still lags )

  • if your pc was a cock, would you suck it?

and it isnt even high end anymore.

second life is a years old game that already looked outdated (like all mmos, so everyone can run it) when it came out. there is no justification for the horrible performance, the uploader has a point and you dont. except how cool the pc is that your mom bought you.

  • @windson7 well this was 2 years ago, it was a pretty fast card, not the fastest obviously, but damn good enough to run SL smoothly when I had that build lol.

  • @Razor2048 The mesh of objects on sl is made by residents of sl, on other games the mesh of the objects are made by professionals to get them more optimized, you cant expect to get decent frame rates on ether sl or crysis on your system. plus its not the coding, it only takes up about half the gpu and cpu power to stop them getting too hot and slowing down your computer, on better "ultra" viewers you can change this.

  • @xXxAkiraClaymorexXx LOL high end powerful card - 880GT? 700 mhz only? you shittin me, right.

  • noob dont compare second life to crysis...

my geforce 9500 GT DDR2 512MB fuck the second life on maximun settings

    limit setings 16xAA...

on crysis my card is of wood dont suport very high 0xAA 800x600...

    only on high fps 12-20...

    you fail

  • Eh..even at stock my Core i7 920 will rape some overclocked Phenom II's and at overclocked speed, psh. You have no idea, but this vid is old and yes the i7 was rediculious at launch xDD As per SL, it favours Nvidia because ATI has piss poor drivers for OpenGL. Even with my system, my HD4850 hardly got good FPS. ;;

  • For future reference, Kit Estates back in 08 would not be a good place to frame test.

  • they both suck really

  • dont cry, your fps is better than my with so big draw distance, 12 fps is my maximum on 96m distance without windlight and with ripped water shaders) but crysis just crashes at start (( i newer playd this game T.T

i have intel p4 2.4Ghz, 512mb of sdr ram, nVidia geForce FX 5700 256mb vram, dx8, pixel shader v1.0, no SSE

  • Poor example.
