Basil Poledouris conducts the Andalucian Philarmonic Orchestra & Chorus at Ubeda Film Music Festival in July 2006. Sadly, he passed away less than 4 month later. This was the first and only live Conan concert he ever gave.

  • Magnífico!! emocionante!! de chorar!

  • @SuperOpinator You are absolutely correct. And besides, the human ear is atuned to the human voice to the exclusion of all other sounds. This is why a single soprano can be heard singing while an entire symphony orchestra is playing full-tilt behind her. I wager to say that the live experience was far different than what can be assessed from some cut-rate, ambient recording.

  • I totally agree, just makes me wonder where the choir was when it was time for rehersal..

  • It was my childhood !!! First my film with this music !!! Thank you Basil for openning my soul !!!

REST IN PEACE BASIL !!! THANK YOU

  • Well, maybe the performance isn't perfect, but some people here is firing from the hip, and they are WRONG. First, it doesn't sound as the CD of Conan the Barbarian because it wasn't recorded in a theater, it was recorded at the court of a historic building, so the sound can't be the same. Second, specially for the ones speaking of the lack of synchronization of the musicians with Basil Poledouris, just watch the timbal player at the video from 5:15. The video and the sound are out of sync.

  • I think it was ok, I'm also familiar with the songs... but I think it was just the event here, I think everyone had fun. it was a great performance I feel... for me that is. I did realize the tempo being off.. but I think this was just superb, it was a special moment... :D

  • @kernunoos - I agree with you. The chorus kept getting their cues wrong and repeated where they shouldn't have. Having watched the film and owning both versions of the Conan musical score, I know this piece backwards and it was totally out of tempo and, although a reasonable performance, this sounds NOTHING AT ALL like the original arrangement from the first Conan film. I feel sad that this sounds so bad, because I absolutely adore Mr.Poledouris's music.

  • @krFna Poledouris didn't deserve this crappy performance: wrong notes, out of rythm, , they didn't respect his conducting....how is this possible? Makes me sad.
