Virginians Vs. the Dominion of Coal

People of Virginia rise up in a democratic fervor to oppose the coal-fired power plant proposed by Dominion Power. This plant would be extremely destructive to the local environment, not to mention the regional and international impacts that coal has because of its contribution to global warming.

Dominion didn't propose this plant, the VA state govm't REQUESTED it. Start riding a bike and turn off your air-conditioning and go to bed at sundown if you don't want another power plant.

This is so personal to me. My father is in danger of losing his home he has worked 35 years for all because of Dominion. There are no benefits for Wise County with this plant. The health risks alone are reason to not have the plant. The way that they are powering this plant is to blow up our mountains and then dump the sludge in our streams and rivers. I am proud to say that I was one of many in Richmond who handed Dominion a mile long petetion opposing the plant. STOP MOUNTAINTOP REMOVAL NOW!!!

I am in Wise Co. and i dont think the plant should be built! its not just outsiders who dont want this plant. its the ppl that live around here too.... our land is to pretty for something like that. just think it wont just effect us, it will effect the plants and the animals also! there is no safe long term condition with any plant in this area. We can make better jobs than this if we try harder!

We have a major smoking problem here in Wise county. Second hand smoke and smoking moms don't make healthy people. I have relatives in KY... nowhere near any power plant.. and cancer is high over there too.

I am a citizen of Wise County, and I have never met anyone who opposes this power plant. Wise county is Real. The people here are real. We are working, family oriented people. The controversy over this power plant is caused by outsiders, a small group with a "mission". We in Wise County have a mission to live our lives... its that simple,

Let's not forget that Dominion also donated 15 or 25,000 to help rebuild High Knob Tower. A noble deed, or perhaps some icing on the cake?

I went to CVC/UVA-Wise. I enjoyed my time there.

Sadly, Dominion has everything in their favor. More money than the county and all of its residents combined... and a large office seven blocks from the capitol of Richmond. Strategic.

Domion should pay each resident of Wise a percentage of the profit. At least Alaskans get paid for their minerals.

There is NOTHING "clean" about coal. This is simply another attempt by Dominion to enrich it's coffers at the health and monetary expense of Virginians. Not only the mountain top removal and the CO2 emissions but what about the other toxic emissions that will eventually make their way into the Chesapeake Bay? This power plant would be a lose-lose situation for Virginians and our immediate neighbors.
