Michael Giacchino's 'Life and Death' composed as part of Lost's soundtrack. Played on guitar. No video cos I have no camera.. plus I look lame.

  • tremolo or rotary?

  • @TheThim51 Tremolo - a stereo tremolo, I used the Boss PN-2

  • Really nice rendition. To those of you asking for tabs, learn to read music. I don't say that to be a jerk. If you truly have a love for the guitar and music, then you should learn something about it.

  • @kremisos Or get better at working stuff out by ear, it will make you a better musician if you ever get in a band.

  • @noonelikeskat - Sorry for writing a book on the topic, but I just wanted to add that even people who only play by ear recognize that their are obvious patterns that just work all across the fretboard. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that knowing why those patterns exist, will help a guitarist out tremendously.

  • @kremisos You couldn't be more right though, I found the theory of modes, intervals and chord structures incredibly helpful...

People who are asking for tabs, spend less time learning songs by tabs and more time learning the theory behind the songs you already know how to play. Then come back and learn new pieces by ear.

  • hey i was wanting to make a video with this song in it. If you let me i will give you credit. Can I?

  • Love this version.

  • @mawsterin

I don't think it's necessary, but I do think it will make someone a better musician. There's plenty of people that play wonderfully and don't know anything about music theory. A lot of the rock now though sounds the same and uses the same boring chord progressions. Why? Because instead of learning about music, their brains are just copying the same overplayed garbage into what they think are original pieces.

  • @kremisos

    learning solfeo is not necesary...

  • well played sir...perfect effects usage

  • I like this better than the original... this is so.... 80's, in a great way.

  • i listened to this on my turtle beaches and it was absolutely amazing... goosebumps :')

  • @FlashBaron Well that wasn't really my intention. I know I come off as a bit of a smartass at times, but I taught myself how to both read and write music, theory, as well as several instruments without formal instruction. I think in a lot of respects, tabs have made people more lazy and less willing to learn, but outside of that I have no problem with it being one more way to pick up a song quickly. It's just that many people use this as a crutch and never bother to learn anything else.

  • @kremisos I absolutely agree. But it was just seemed like you were telling us -- even those of us who do know music theory -- not to learn anything by tabs. I was just trying to point out that there is a use for tabs, and that it's not the great evil that befell classical training.

  • @FlashBaron It's not really about shrugging off tabs. It's about knowing what you're doing also. Sure tabs is a quick way to learn, but wouldn't it be nice to know what notes you're hitting? What does it hurt knowing what key you're playing in? If you can read music, understand basic music theory, play by ear, AND read tabs isn't that better than just doing one or the other?
