  • Ahithophelia, I'm not quite sure what your point is. He is speaking to religious people not to Athiests. And he is explaining to religious people why zealotry leads to increased backlash against religion in culture. There's nothing to "wash" here.

  • A provocative claim, and good for stimulating discussion. It faces some problems, however. Poor "science" amongst Christians predates "the religious right" (this mythical, monolithic entity we want to blame for everything) by many decades. Atheists took courage from the Scopes trials, for instance. And we have had public, vehement atheists for a long time. I agree that atheism is essentially reactive in nature, but blaming the religious right does not wash.
